ALLIE COLLOPY
INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EDUCATOR

ABOUT ME
Growing up in a sheltered small town in New England, I did not anticipate the extent to which participating in international education as an adolescent would deeply change who I was as a person and how I envisioned my global community. Since my first study abroad experience in Russia as a high school senior, I have dedicated myself making education abroad as profound, transforming, and accessible to high school students as it was for me at the same age.
My personal love of non-traditional destinations began with my study abroads in Russia and Peru and has carried into my professional life - leaving me with a particular interest in fostering compassionate young leaders through community development programming. This concentration has enabled me to work in tandem with adolescents and international youth educators from a wide range of nations to create programs which cultivate the love of intercultural partnership that has so impacted our lives. Since 2011, I have had the privilege to work for AFS-USA and Global Leadership Adventures to support high school students on program in the developing world.
I am currently a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies for a Master's in International Education Management where I am able to explore myriad themes relating to student support, program design and assessment, and ethical implementation of international education. In January of 2015 I began my practicum as a Residence Hall Director of multicultural themed housing at the University of New Hampshire. In this role I have been able to combine my experience working as a youth mentor and student affairs professional with my academic background in international education to manage a staff of 8 international Resident Assistants, control a $5,000 budget, as well as design and implement student-focused curriculum surrounding social justice, academic identity, healthy living, and involvement.
